Google Adwords Campaign Structure
How much should I pay for a local online ad agency services?

I own a small business in New Hampshire and I am looking into local online ad agencies. I would like someone to manage a Facebook and Google adwords campaigns, along with setting up twitter accounts and other small things. I was wondering how much I’ll need to pay to work with someone?

If I wanted to spend, say $1,000/month on Facebook and Google Adwords, how much should I be paying local ad agency? I’m not exactly sure how the structure of that works.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Zach,

with agencies for Google advertising it is very different:

1. Percentage based – NOT recommended.

Some agencies take percentage of your monthly ad spent and you should stay away from those as their goal is to take as much money as you can afford. These type of agencies usually won’t optimize or lower your advertising expense as this would mean more work and less money for them.

The percentage they take depends on how much you spend with them. It could be anywhere from 5% to 35%, depends on your budget.

2. Fixed Cost Per Click – NOT recommended.

This is plain simple – you buy clicks at fixed price. The agency will sell you clicks for $0.65, but will get them for half of that. You will never know the real click price.

The BIG problem at his price model is that they will try to get the lowest price they can and on Google this means that your ad will appear somewhere at the bottom right corner and as they will get bad results with this practice, they will try to convince you tu go for more “broad” keywords to get as many cheap clicks as possible.

3. Predefined price or hourly rate – Recommended

This is the best model for your success. Your ad spend doesn’t affect your campaigns management fee and this is the only fair business model so far.

3.1 – Pay by the keyword

Some agencies charge by the number of keywords that they will manage for you – they usually have a minimum number of keywords and a price per keyword ranging from $5 to $15.

3.2 Campaign building & campaign management price

You pay a fixed one time fee for campaign building and monthly campaign management fee. Price depends on your requirements and is based on how many keywords, products or categories you want to advertise.

Campaign management prices can range from few hundreds if you have few products or want to advertise you service, to thousands of dollars if you have hundreds or thousands of products and want to advertise all of them.

3.3 Campaign building & campaign management price – by the hour.

This is quite the same as 3.2, but you get rates by the hour.

Last but not least:

No matter which agency or consultant you choose you should let them know that you want to track your ROI and that you want to have 24/7 access to your campaigns.
